Matthew is a lighting designer based in Western Australia, known for his sensitive and collaborative approach to crafting bold, immersive designs. Since graduating from WAAPA in 2019, he has worked across theatre, dance, physical theatre, and exhibitions—bringing a nuanced understanding of how light can shape story, rhythm, and space. His lighting for Everything Flickers (The Blue Room Theatre, 2023) was praised for its subtlety and effectiveness, while Blue (State Theatre Centre of WA, 2025) earned recognition for its understated intentionality in supporting character and narrative. He was nominated for a PAWA Award for his design on Catch 22, and has continued to build a diverse portfolio with work that enhances storytelling, such as in A Love Letter to the Nightingale, Blue Angel, The Comprehensive A–Z of Missing Persons Australia, and LEGENDS. With credits across companies including Melbourne Theatre Company, Black Swan State Theatre Company, WAYTCo, and WA Museum Boola Bardip, Matthew continues to establish himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary Australian lighting design.
